The portfolio inclusions start as early as your first project during your animation studies and it continues till your final diploma film. It’s very important for a person who is an absolute fresher in terms of animation as a career to have a good portfolio to your advantage.
Portfolio does not always mean for a job, it may also mean getting admission into a better college for higher studies into animation. Portfolio may be of different types. It may be hardcore paperback or it may be a digital one depends on the requirements of the company or the college.
The most important detail of preparing your portfolio for a job is to remember to give yourself plenty of time and have fun with it. It is almost impossible to create quality work if you are nervous and under a time constraint. Don't wait until the last minute, and make enough work so you can edit together the best portfolio for each job you plan to apply to.
Portfolio development is a very logical process. Since you always start with your first project it also means that you do not include anything and everything. It means to put your best projects forward and include only the best so that it always works with your advantage.
Portfolio making should be a very thoughtful process and not a hasty one. Thinking what to put should not be a nerve wrecking experience. It is best to show your work to a lot of people before you finally insert it into your portfolio.
It should also be noted that it is not advisable to send your portfolio on mails. It should only be on hard copy or soft copy and handed over personally only to avoid any kind of copyright infringement. You can make your portfolio around various topics such as 3D Architecture , Character Animation,3D Industrial Design , Renderings , Interactive 3D , Video Production , Special Effects , Prototype Animation , Medical 3D , Custom Web Design. It helps if you follow a flow of projects starting from the basic to the advanced and then finally an entire caricature of the final product showing that you have advanced from the basics and it also helps in evaluating you well.
